Topeca Portugal Chooses Innova’s Stretch Hood to Protect Its Mortar Bags

How can mortar bags and construction materials be protected during transportation and storage? Not a single drop of rain reaches Topeca’s bags—one of Portugal’s leading mortar manufacturers—thanks to the recent installation of an Innova Stretch Hood system at its Cercal (Leiria) plant. Topeca has chosen Innova’s technology to modernize its packaging line and enhance the protection and presentation of its products.

Topeca is a key player in Portugal’s construction materials industry, known for the quality of its products. In addition to technical mortars, the company also supplies insulation systems, coatings, and mosaics, among other materials. With this new installation, Topeca has not only improved load protection and stability but also optimized its entire packaging process, reducing consumables in line with its sustainability and technological innovation policies.

Topeca’s Challenge: Total Protection for Its Product

Topeca needed to enhance the protection of its products during transportation and storage. Previously, the company used an automatic turntable wrapper with a top cover applicator, which secured the load but did not provide the full protection and sealing it required. To prevent potential damage to the materials and maintain product quality, Topeca sought a packaging solution offering greater impermeability against humidity, dust, and even rain.

Additionally, Topeca wanted a packaging solution that improved the presentation of its products for transport and storage at the point of sale, ensuring a consistent and professional appearance across all its loads.

Innova’s Solution: Stretch Hood Packaging Line

After analyzing Topeca’s needs, the Innova Group team proposed the installation of a Stretch Hood packaging line, a technology specifically designed to provide the total protection the Portuguese manufacturer required. Stretch Hood wraps the load in a single layer of stretch film, offering full protection without the need for a top cover, additional wrapping layers, or extra consumables.

Features of Topeca’s Installation

The packaging line installed at Topeca’s Cercal factory includes a Stretch Hood system integrated with a conveyor line, connected to the previous bagging and palletizing station.

1. Inbound Conveyor Line:
To optimize workflow, the inbound conveyor is directly connected to Topeca’s bagging and palletizing system, ensuring a seamless and automated transition. Additionally, it features an auxiliary entry station with a pallet centering system, ensuring precise alignment before the Stretch Hood process. This guarantees a uniform and aesthetically consistent packaging.

2. Stretch Hood Pro System:
The Stretch Hood Pro system installed at Topeca is equipped with two film reels, allowing it to adapt to different load formats. This setup enables efficient and flexible packaging, adjusting precisely to each pallet’s dimensions without material waste.

3. Outbound Conveyor Line:
The outbound conveyor line is designed to enhance handling and traceability. A pallet turning system and an accumulation conveyor were included to adapt to the factory space and ensure efficient pallet collection. Additionally, the line is integrated with a labeling system that receives real-time data from each load, improving logistics traceability.

Results for Topeca: Protection, Efficiency, and Savings

With the implementation of Innova’s Stretch Hood system, Topeca has achieved significant improvements in its packaging process:

  • Total product protection, ensuring mortar bags reach customers in optimal condition.
  • Increased end-of-line efficiency, with automation reducing operation times and boosting productivity.
  • Savings on consumables, by eliminating the need for extra film layers or additional covers.
  • Enhanced product presentation, with a uniform and professional packaging that strengthens Topeca’s brand identity.

Topeca’s management has expressed great satisfaction with the project, highlighting Innova Group’s efficiency and professionalism throughout the entire implementation process. With this new installation, Topeca reinforces its position as an industry leader, investing in advanced packaging technologies to ensure the highest quality for its products.

At Innova, we are proud to have collaborated with a leading company like Topeca in Portugal, providing an innovative packaging solution that meets its high-quality and protection standards.

Thank you, Topeca, for trusting Innova!
